Humility

I know I have been blessed in this life, so I write to you with a humble heart. I acknowledge that everything I have and everything I am comes from the goodness and grace of something greater than my self.

So teach me true humility. Help me to remember that I am nothing without that grace and that every gift, talent, opportunity, and blessing in my life is a gift.

Take away from me the desire to be praised, admired, or recognized. Deliver me from pride, arrogance, self-righteousness, and the need to always prove myself right.

Give me the humility to listen before I speak, to learn before I judge, to forgive before I condemn, and to serve without expecting recognition.

When I am successful, keep me humble.

When I am praised, keep me grounded.

When I am criticized, give me wisdom.

When I am corrected, give me a teachable heart.

When I am overlooked, remind me that I am seen.

When I am rejected, remind me that I am loved.

Teach me to follow good examples. Help me to choose love over pride, service over status, and obedience over selfish ambition.

Give me the grace to celebrate the success of others without jealousy. Help me to rejoice when others are blessed. Teach me never to compare my journey with another person's journey, but to trust in a perfect plan for my life.

Humble my heart so that I may become a vessel of peace.

May I never look down upon anyone because of their poverty, weakness, mistakes, or failures. Help me to see every person and to remember that every human being carries dignity.

Bless my family with the gift of humility.

Let husbands and wives learn to say, "I am sorry."

Let parents listen to their children.

Let children respect their parents.

Let friends forgive one another.

Let leaders serve those entrusted to their care.

Whenever pride begins to grow in me, gently bring me back. May I always remember that

"God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble."

(James 4:6)

May grace be sufficient for me. May I walk humbly, love sincerely, serve generously, and live faithfully. Make my heart gentle, humble, patient, and full of love.

I surrender my pride.

I surrender my ego.

I surrender my need for recognition.

I surrender my desire to control everything.

Teach me to decrease so that I may increase in my life.

May I never seek to be above others, but may I always seek to lift others up.
