You may have heard the buzz word "Go Bag" in your travels and not quite given it a lot of thought. Well, maybe you should. This is something to consider having more than one of in more than one place, for example, one in your home and one in your vehicle.
A go bag is a prepared bag as a back up in case you get stranded or must leave the house quickly. It may be a fire, an evacuation risk such as a gas leak or even a forewarning of a natural disaster. Nothing that would allow you the time to prepare so just be prepared and ready to go.
This is a small bag that is easily carried, maybe a small knapsack or strap over. It's the bare bones essentials of the following for a quick exit and no certain destination.

Having a bag for each member of your household and certain considerations if you have a pet to take care of as well. This is a downsized version of the emergency preparedness kit which would have you sustained for a disaster over the first 72 hours of upheaval. Rather, a go bag is minimal and absolute. There are no frills, just the immediate future to consider in a quick escape.
Place your packed go bag so it is easily in reach near an exit or centrally if there are two exits and one is blocked or is the lesser choice. Note that the change of clothes is seasonal; you need to update your go bag as a result. Your food and water supplies need to be freshened up from time to time and of course kept up to date.
The batteries would be fresh as well and if you dipped into the cash it would need to be replaced. Be sure to check if any contact numbers or insurance information changed or needed updating as well.
Getting a go bag together is something that just takes a few moments to prepare and each month, check it as you would a smoke detector or freezer that needed defrosting. It can be a great peace of mind if you just get it done and know it is there for you, just in case. Some people even take theirs travelling and... true story, one couple had to use theirs when the hotel they were staying at caught fire. It was all they could grab and luckily, they did! Why put off what you could do today?
